

He was born on June 19, 1937, in Boston, Massachusetts. Edward lived a life defined by devotion to family, faith, hard work, and service to others. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later built a successful career as a supervisor in the manufacturing industry, earning the respect of colleagues through his strong work ethic and leadership.
Edward was a man who found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved traveling, spending time at the beach, and faithfully following his beloved Boston sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Celtics. A devout Catholic, his faith remained a guiding force throughout his life, providing strength, purpose, and compassion in all he did.
In 2009, Edward and his family relocated from New Hampshire to Florida, embracing the sunshine and warm weather that he so enjoyed during his retirement years.
Above all, Edward cherished his family. He is survived by his brother, Johnny Flaherty; his grandson, Robert (Betty) Hassinger; his granddaughter, Christine Towne; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Zoey Farrell and Gabriella Hassinger. He also leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.
Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Waltraud Flaherty; his daughter, Viola Hassinger; his parents; and his siblings, Jimmy, Billy, Roy, Dorothy, and Harriet.
Edward's legacy is one of loyalty, perseverance, faith, and unconditional love. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to those he held dear. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends for generations to come.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Edward's honor.
