Frederick John Bohenek was born November 24, 1947 to Stanley and Helen Bohenek in Brooklyn, New York. In May of 1966, Fred enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the 2nd Battalion 4th Marine Corps Division. He was honorably discharged after receiving three Purple Hearts for his gallant service in Vietnam—but Fred was always a Marine.
After leaving the USMC, Fred immediately began serving in the New York City Police Department where he served the city he loved until 1982. While with the NYPD Fred attended the New York Institute of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in 1978. In 1985, Fred began work with the Civil Service Department of Defense and finished his distinguished career in the service of his country in 2002.
In 2006 Fred met the love of his life, Casey Tsen, and the two were married in 2007 in Clearwater, Florida. They enjoyed travelling the world together and were committed members of Skycrest Community Church.
Fred is survived by his brother Stan Bohenek, nephew Matt Bohenek, niece Kaitlin Bohenek; and lots of brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces on the Tsen side of the family.
Fred will be greatly missed by family, friends and the country he served. Semper Fidelis!
The Celebration of Fred’s Life will be held at Skycrest Community Church, 125 N. Belcher Rd, Clearwater, FL. at 11 am on Friday, July 10, 2020 (live on Skycrest Community Church Facebook).
A carpool convoy will depart at 8 am from Bryant Funeral Home, 411 Old Town Road, Setauket and burial will take place at Calverton National Cemetery with Full Military Honors at 9 am on Tuesday, July 14.
While flowers are welcome, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Skycrest Community Church as an alternate expression of sympathy.
