He was born on May 26, 1940, in Berkeley, California to his late parents, Edward and Virginia Tromer.
Gil was a graduate of Juilliard (1962, clarinet). He was a musician and business owner. His many hobbies included practicing drums and piano, being a private pilot, a sailor, chess, table tennis, travelling, and exploring.
He was a perpetual entrepreneur. Whether it was plane refurbishing, worm farming, a camera store, or a cookie bakery. He always sought out to create and own a business to support his family. He had an over-the-top belly laugh that would come out, usually around the dinner table, and usually to a story he was telling. He was uniquely confident. Once on a family camping trip, Dad and Logan were going out in a canoe. They paddled out and were getting close to weeds; dad told Logan to turn around, Logan was in the back, stood up and physically turned around. We watched from the shore in hysterics as they both paddled and paddled in opposite directions. The slow realization on dad’s face of what was happening was priceless. He was a talented musician, practicing his drums, piano, or guitar every evening. We all got used to falling asleep to Dad playing his drums.
He is survived by his spouse Kathryn Tromer, his children; Logan Tromer (Jennifer), Jessica Tromer, Sean Tromer (Kayla), Cara Tromer, and his Grandchildren; Ryder Tromer, Colin Tromer, Taylor Tromer, Chesney Tromer, Axel Mason, and Josephine Tromer.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to please consider donating to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Tunnels to Towers in his name.
A celebration of life for Gaillard will be held Sunday, August 10, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 SUNSET POINT RD, CLEARWATER, FL 33759.
