Gene Boltz Hott, 99, of Clearwater, Florida, passed peacefully on March 22, 2026. Born on February 15, 1927, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, Gene lived a long and meaningful life marked by devotion, quiet strength, and a deep care for others.
In her early years, Gene answered the call to teach by attending Shepherd College where she graduated and started educating students in grades one through eight in a one-room schoolhouse in West Virginia. As one of the first woman to serve in that role, she helped shape young lives with patience and determination. She later extended her compassion and dedication while teaching at the West Virginia School for the Deaf and the Blind where her work reflected both purpose and heart. In 1960, Gene moved to Florida, continuing her lifelong commitment to education at Oak Grove Junior High School, where she remained until her retirement.
A woman of faith, Gene was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Clearwater and was also proud to be part of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Her life was guided by a steady spirit, evident in the simple joys she cherished, reading, walking, and participating in Silver Sneakers.
Gene was preceded in death by her parents, Flora Rebecca Henshaw and Howard W. Boltz Sr.; her beloved husband of 60 years, George Hunter Hott; and her siblings, Howard W. Boltz Jr., Helen Marie King, Anne Henshaw Howdershell, Bruce “Don” Boltz, Paul Nelson Boltz, and Dorothy Boltz Laramore Coyle.
Her son, William Hunter Hott, passed just one day after her. Their close and loving bond makes this timing especially poignant, a reflection of the deep connection they shared in life.
She leaves behind a legacy of love in her grandchildren, Hunter Thomas Hott and wife, Veronica and Channing Hott Solomon, and husband Matt; her great-grandchildren, Hunter Thomas Hott II., Cooper James Hott, Parker Robert Solomon, and Reid Thomas Solomon, as well as her two very dear nieces Marylee Taft & Cathy Green; and many extended family members and dear friends who will continue to carry her memory forward.
Gene’s life was one of quiet impact, unwavering faith, and enduring love, an example to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Clearwater on June 2nd at 11:00am.
