

She was born in Clearwater the daughter of Alfred and Amber Clark Turner. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Amber Vivian Turner. She attended Clearwater Junior High in Greenwood and graduated from Clearwater High School class of 1939-40. Gere received her BA in English from Florida State College for Women (now Florida State) in 1944; she went on to earn a Masters degree from the University of Florida ’56. While at Florida State was very active: President of student body, Permanent Class President, Mortar Board National Honor Society and the FSU Torchbearer Chapter founded in 1931, which honored top scholars and leaders on campus. She was a 50 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Florida Kappa, a society for key women educators and a member of the President’s Club Robert Strozier Citizens. In 2000, Gere was recognized for her long standing records of devotion to the University by the FSU Emeritus Alumni Society. She was an FSU benefactor to academic program through the James D. Westcott Legacy Society. Gere taught at the St. Petersburg Junior College for many years. She was a member of the Clearwater Historical Society, the St. Pete Tiger Bay Club, the American Association of University Women and a benefactor of the Florida Orchestra.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 21 at 10 AM followed by a funeral service at 11 AM, at Moss Feaster Funeral Home, 693 S. Belcher Rd., Clearwater. Interment will be in Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
