Born on April 12, 1928, in Chicago, Illinois, to Dorothy (Seymour) and Andrew Woodman, Harry was a man shaped by hard work and unwavering dedication. He built a long and respected career with Commonwealth Edison Electric Company, beginning as a carpenter supporting linemen and, through determination and integrity, rising into management. His work ethic was matched only by his humility and steady leadership. Harry was also a proud Alumni from Tilden Tech High School
Harry found joy in life’s simple pleasures—walking the golf course, cheering on the Chicago Bears, and spending time with those he loved. He was a proud Navy veteran and a devoted member of his community, belonging to the Oak Lawn Elks, American Legion Post #0118, VFW Post 5220, and St. Linus Catholic Church, where he faithfully served as an usher and participated in the men’s group. His presence was constant, dependable, and deeply valued.
For more than three decades, Harry embraced the life of a “snowbird,” traveling between Chicago and Florida to be close to family and to savor the warmth and beauty he so appreciated. Wherever he went, he carried with him a deep sense of loyalty—to his family, his friends, and his roots.
Above all, Harry was a family man. He is survived by his loving daughters, Susan Woodman and Nanci Karas; his cherished grandchildren, Melanie Karas and Jessica Karas; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 75 years, Joy Woodman, whose love was the cornerstone of his life; his siblings, Donald Woodman, Dolores Potts, and Kenneth Woodman; his grandson, Jake Karas; and his lifelong friend of 85 years, Fran Webber. Though he outlived many he held dear, he never stopped honoring their memory.
Harry will be remembered for his steady presence, his quiet kindness, and the enduring example he set for those around him. His life was one of commitments to his work, his faith, his country, and most importantly, his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
He will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois, at a later date.
