Irene (Lach) Stevens, 98, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Stevens, her son, Victor Stevens, her parents, and 14 siblings. She is survived by her daughters, Lee (Keith) Werner, Kim (Jeff) Kronschnabl, as well as grandchildren Katelyn Werner, Lisa (Lee) McDaniel; great-grandchildren Jason Hall (and his partner Karee Howell) and Riley McDaniel; and great-great-grandson Levi Hall, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Born on January 4th, 1928, in Hartford, Connecticut to the late Bruno and Josephine (Mierzwienski) Lach, Irene moved to Florida upon marrying her husband, Jim. Their unconditional love and devotion towards each other transcended their 67-year marriage and was an inspiration to all who knew them.
As an avid seamstress and craftswoman, Irene was known for designing new dresses (including a bridal dress that was shared by her daughters and niece); and, also for creating a line of Christmas elves and other decorations; as well as making custom furniture pieces, cabinets, and pursuing home renovation projects. She was always working on a project even through her nineties and frequently referred to the Home Depot and Lowe’s as her ‘jewelry stores.’
Irene was beloved by all who knew her and though we grieve her loss, we can take comfort in the knowledge that her presence made the world a better place. We will always cherish our memories of her, and she will live on in our hearts, minds, and through our actions.
A visitation will be held at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home in Clearwater, Florida on June 4th from 10:00am to 11:30am in Irene's honor. A funeral service will follow at 11:30am, and she will be laid to rest at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, next to her husband and son.
