Obituary of Mr. Isadore Sterling
Isadore (Izzy) Sterling (born December 23,1923) passed on September 25, 2022 at the age of 98. He resided in Clearwater, Florida. He was the son of Samuel and Fannie Sterling. He was preceded in death by his wife Ida Sterling and son Bruce Sterling. He is survived by his daughter Fran Sterling, son -in -law John Moriarty and granddaughter, Corinne Moriarty. Izzy was born in New York City in 1923. He and his family endured the great depression. His mother passed in 1938 leaving him to help his father with work and caring for his 3 sisters. Multiple member of his mother’s and father’s side of his family who remained in Europe were murdered in the Holocaust. He left school at an early age even though he was accepted to a HS program at Stuyvesant HS in NYC known to only accept the best students. At the age of 55 he studied and earned his HS diploma. He was a veteran of WW2 having served in the US navy. After leaving military service he joined the New York City Transit Police Department and worked his way up to Detective. After retirement he and Ida relocated to South Florida. However, he never stopped. He continued to work multiple jobs and do volunteer work. After his dear wife Ida passed he dedicated himself to volunteering as an Ombudsman for Tampa Bay area, believing that the elderly needed better care and a sounding board for their families. He is also survived by multiple nieces, nephews, cousins who all referred to him as “Uncle Iz” “Grandpa Iz” and the “Silver Fox” due to his premature grey hair. We will dearly miss him Special shout out to Sarah Peery and Dianna Harvester who spent many hours caring for him during his last months. Without them the quality of life he enjoyed would have been taken from him. Also, a special thank you the administration and staff at the Preserve of Clearwater, Westchester Gardens and Mease Countryside Hospital. Please consider Donations to : Chabad CHAI of South Tampa or or Plant a tree (In memory of Isadore Sterling)
