

Jack L. Kellogg was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on November 15, 1928 and grew up on the east side (except for one year when the family relocated to Davenport, Iowa). He delivered daily newspapers until he graduated from East High School in June, 1946. He then began plastering homes with his father until he enlisted in the Army. He served in the Military Police as a Desk Sergeant at XXIV Corps Headquarters in Seoul, Korea. He returned in 1948, got married to Thelma Vinton, and had two sons. He graduated from Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa in 1952. Following a divorce, he married Olive A. Jones in September, 1953 in St. Louis, Missouri. He worked as a Structural Research Engineer for Granco, Granite City Steel and later Laclede Steel in St. Louis.
Jack became Chief Engineer of Lusterlite Buildings (prefabricated steel buildings) in Cicero, Illinois for several years before returning to St. Louis to become part owner of Building Products dealing with construction materials. Over a period of time, he became a Structural Engineer licensed as a Professional Engineer in four states.
In 1968, Jack and Olive moved to North Carolina where he worked as a field engineer building plants around Hickory, NC and later became a Superintendent of a steel fabricating plant in Salisbury, NC. After retiring, Jack and Olive moved to Charlotte, NC where Jack continued working as a Structural Engineer. He also became a teacher of engineering courses at Piedmont College in Charlotte, NC. In 1996, Jack and Olive moved to Safety Harbor, FL.
Both Jack and Olive were members of Bethel Lutheran Church and firmly believed that Jesus Christ is their savior. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before Olive passed away on February 22, 2014.
Jack passed away on September 30, 2021, six weeks before his 93rd birthday. He is survived by two sons, Robert L. Kellogg (Paula) of Salisbury, MD and James L. Kellogg (Donna) of Mason City, IA, one brother, Charles L. Kellogg (Cheryl) of Altoona, Iowa, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
