James Carroll

In September 1957, JR joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country with honor until September 1959. He married Ann L. Vera, with whom he shared over 30 years of marriage until her passing in 1991.

JR was employed by the U.S. Government before embarking on a successful career with IBM in 1965. Starting as a Systems Engineer, he advanced to roles as a Program Manager and Marketing Manager. JR was a proud graduate of Syracuse University, the University of North Florida, and California Coast University. After retiring from IBM in 1994, he earned a PhD and went on to share his knowledge as an Adjunct Professor at St. Petersburg College.

On April 1, 1995, JR married Mary Ann Architetto. Together, they enjoyed numerous adventures, moving many times within the Tampa Bay Area. JR was a passionate runner, cyclist, and sailor, pursuits that exemplified his zest for life. These outdoor activities, however, contributed to a battle with skin cancer that ultimately spread to his brain.

JR is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ann; his sons, James Brian, Sean Michael; his daughter, Elizann; his stepchildren, Michael, and Denise; and their spouses and his cherished grandchildren, Ethan, Emma, Lucas, and Sydney. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to LifePath Hospice or Catholic Charities of St. Petersburg Florida. A celebration of his life will be held at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, in Safety Harbor, FL.on September 21 at 10:30 am. A private burial will be held for immediate family.

JR’s legacy of love, education, and perseverance will continue to inspire those who were fortunate to know him.
