James Wesley “Jim” Stewart, 83, of Palm Harbor, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026. Jim was born on August 29, 1943, in High Point, North Carolina, to the late Elsie Mae Blackwell and William “Leroy” Stewart.
For more than 30 years, Jim built a life dedicated to hard work and community philanthropy. Jim owned and operated Jim Stewart’s Shoes stores throughout Pinellas and surrounding counties. He was a dedicated member of the downtown Rotary Club of Clearwater, serving as President, as well as a District Governor for Rotary International. Jim was deeply involved in numerous roles throughout the community. He served with the Greater Clearwater Chamber of Commerce and was honored as Mr. Clearwater in 1999 in recognition of his philanthropy. Jim also served on the Board of Morton Plant Hospital; aided in fundraising efforts to open Ruth Eckerd Hall; and helped to organize or sponsored numerous local parades and events.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Nita A. Stewart; his children, Robert J. Stewart, Karen S. Black, and W. Brian (Melissa) Stewart; his grandchildren, Brittany Stewart, Ashleigh Stewart, Lindsey (Austin) Wayne, Ian M. Stewart, Connor W. Stewart, Brandon D. Black, and Hailey N. Black.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his sons, David Lewis and Michael Edward Stewart, and his brothers, Edward S. and W. L. “Bill” Stewart.
Services will be private and held for immediate family.
