

Joan B. Marakas, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2024, at the age of 96. Joan's warm heart, sharp wit, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on December 14, 1928, in Ripley, West Virginia, Joan lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication.
A lover of the arts, Joan was known for her love of painting. She spent her free time creating art and drawing cartoons to share with friends and family. She thoroughly enjoyed watching classic cinema and her creativity and appreciation for beauty enriched the lives of those around her.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, George C. Marakas, who passed away in 2005. Joan is survived by her stepson, Dr. George M. Marakas; her nieces Sandra Conway, Patricia Glover, and Beth Ann Sook; and many grand and great-grandnieces and nephews.
A celebration of Joan’s life will be held on August 10, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. at the Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home at 2853 Sunset Point Road in Clearwater, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Salvation Army in Joan’s name.
Joan B. Marakas will be remembered for her sense of humor and the indelible mark she left on everyone she met. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing her.
