Joseph Anthony Melone

Joseph “Joe” Anthony Melone (72), born in Rochester, N.Y., beloved husband, son, brother, and uncle, with the gentle, compassionate care of Hospice passed from this life into eternal rest on November 29, 2025.

Joseph’s gentle spirit, unique talents, and welcoming smile touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He was well known for his acoustic guitar playing, an instrument he carried to every camping trip and family gathering, filling each occasion with music, warmth, laughter, and joy. Many colleagues will remember his sharp mathematical and computer language skills, which he utilized throughout his career at Nielsen Media Research, where he met Joy and later retired. His determination and ability to overcome any obstacle, including living and working with blindness, inspired all who knew him.

Family traditions, especially making Christmas cookies, will never be the same without his careful hands and loving attention to detail.

Joe’s warmth, creativity, and quiet kindness will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him. His memory will continue to bring comfort and inspire smiles for years to come. May he rest in peace.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years and very good friend, Joy (Beck) Melone, and his brothers Donald (Kathy), Ronald (Sara), Michael (Lorraine), Stephen (Nancy), and Christopher (Michelle). He will also be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, S. Dominic Melone and Louise Lucy (Saltrelli) Melone, who now welcome him home.

A visitation will be held at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

The funeral service will take place at the same venue on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 11:00 am.

Following the funeral, a committal service will be held at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL 33759, on December 4, 2025, from 12:00 pm.
