She was born on October 23, 1935 in Staten Island, New York to the late Rose (Nee’Carangelo) and Stanley Oleniec.
Josephine spent her career in the medical industry as a Nurse Adie. She worked for many years in the ER of Coney Island Hospital in New York before relocating to Florida. She retired locally from St. Mark Hospital.
In her free time, Josephine enjoyed making ceramics, knitting, art, sewing, swimming, and spending time with her beloved family.
She was a devoted parishioner of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church.
Josephine is survived by her daughters, Judith Whalen, Roseann (Thaddeus) Marchese; sister, Rose Gennaro; many extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Whalen, and daughter, Doreen Naimo.
A visitation for Josephine will be held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759. A funeral mass will follow at 1:30 PM at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, 2405 Philippe Pkwy, Safety Harbor, Florida 34695. Interment will follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, Florida 33759.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Josephine's memory may be made to the Humane Society of Pinellas.
