Katherine "Kathy" Smith

Kathy Smith, age 74, of Seminole, Florida, passed away on January 17, 2025. She was born on January 8, 1951, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to the late Margaret Matuszczyk Carter.

In 1992, Kathy moved from New York to Florida and worked in the healthcare industry before retiring to help care for her mother. Later, she achieved her Child Development Associate Certification and worked as a teacher assistant at Write Start Day Care Center; but, always said that being a mom to her three children was the best job she ever had. Kathy’s greatest joy in life came from spending time with her family, friends, and especially her beloved grandchildren.

With a passion for gardening and entertaining, Kathy had a gift for making others feel welcome in her home. Whether it was a meal she’d prepared with love or a secret stash of Dove chocolate, Kathy ensured everyone felt at ease and cherished. Her home was a place where love and laughter filled the air, especially when it was full of the people she loved most.

Kathy is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Dunn (Joseph), Kelly Ann Smith (Colin), and son Joseph Smith (Angela); her grandchildren, Maggie Kate, Bailey, Raymond, and Benton; her brothers, Cecil Carter (Rose) and Louis Carter; and her sisters, Martha Florio (Peter) and Ellen Carter; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care provided to Kathy by the healthcare teams from Sabal Palms and AccentCare Hospice. Additionally, the family would like to thank Sheddie, Matthew and Zaheerah for their loving care.

A service will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Kathy’s name at https://www.alz.org/. (scroll for direct link)

A graveside memorial celebration for Kathy will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 1:00pm at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, Florida 33759.
