Born in Riverhead, Suffolk County, New York, Laura was a proud Long Island native. She graduated from Eastport High School, attended Suffolk Community College for two years, and continued her education at St. Joseph's College. She built a successful career in accounting, working in New York before relocating to Florida. There, she dedicated more than 20 years to Lennar Builders and most recently was a valued member of the team at Metro Development Group in Tampa.
Laura had a deep love for animals and a compassionate heart. She always opened her home to rescue cats and treasured the companionship of her loyal dogs. One of her greatest joys was traveling to upstate New York, especially the Saratoga area, where she enjoyed spending time around the horses. She also loved attending the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show during its years in Manhattan, combining her passion for animals with cherished visits to New York.
Laura was preceded in death by her beloved younger brother, Danny.
She is lovingly remembered by her father, Dan (Marialice) Coffey; her mother, Jean (Mike) Schmidt; her beloved dog, Jacque; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will miss her kindness, gentle spirit, and love of animals.
Family and friends are invited to gather in celebration of Laura's life on Wednesday, July 15, 2026. A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, a tribute that reflects Laura's lifelong love and compassion for animals.
