She had recently celebrated her 97th birthday. She was born in Medellin, Colombia and immigrated to Tampa, Florida in 1956.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Canuto Federspiel and step-daughter, Musita Federspiel. She is survived by step-daughter, Jane Varela, daughter Luz Maria Cliggitt, daughter Pilar Saad (Muhieddine Saad) and son, William Federspiel (Kelly Nagel). Libia was a loving grandmother to Lauren Cliggitt (Marcie Wood), Michael Cliggitt (Tracy Trimmings), Layelle Saad (Shoki Jazerli), Joumana Saad, Jamal Saad, and Alexander Federspiel. She was able to enjoy great-grandchildren, Samir, Noura, Jude, Hannah, and Leo from Dubai and she was loved by great-granddaughters, Caylin and Kendra Cliggitt of Brandon.
Libia loved to travel and despite her small stature, she enjoyed a good meal. In her later years, she enjoyed the simpler pleasures of sitting in the sun and listening to Spanish music. She possessed a timeless elegance and an unexpected sense of humor. She was a wonderful mother and role model; she taught her children and grandchildren to work hard, be grateful and enjoy life. She was a lifelong member of St. Lawrence parish until she could no longer live alone.
Many friends and family here will miss her, in Dubai and in Medellin, Colombia. The family extends their deepest appreciation to all of her caregivers at Savannah Court ALF of Brandon and to Hospice for their compassionate care. Libia once expressed that she ‘knew she had lived a good life because she had danced so much’; while she will be deeply missed, we will hold onto this sentiment and celebrate a life well lived.
A memorial mass for Libia will be held Wednesday, November 20th at 10:00am at Nativity Catholic Church 705 East Brandon Blvd, Brandon, FL 33511.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital,
