Louise Tanney Meek, 88, of Belleair passed away peacefully at home with her family on Friday, February 8th, 2019 in Brentwood, Tennessee. Louise (Lou) was born in Ft. Myers, Florida where she was raised by her beloved father, Dr. Harris Quillian (Quill) Jones, Sr. She later graduated from American University in Washington, DC where she met her future husband, Attorney William (Bill) James Tanney. They moved to Florida and eventually settled in Belleair (1959) where they raised their four children.
In addition to being a loving and devoted wife and mother, Lou was extremely active in her local community. She was a 60+ year member of the First United Methodist Church of Clearwater and a Past President of the Junior League of Clearwater. Lou enjoyed being of service to others and took on leadership roles with the Clearwater YWCA, Junior Cotillion, the PTA and Booster Clubs at her children’s schools, and various other organizations. Lou was an avid traveler and planned extensive annual 6-8 week R.V. trips with her family, where they enjoyed most of the national parks in the US and Canada, along with beautiful scenery, historical sites and monuments.
After raising her family, Lou became a GRI Real Estate Broker and started MTC Realty with two partners. She later joined the Century 21 Condon-Meek team, where she worked with her second husband, John H. Meek, Sr. Lou and John shared many wonderful years together. They enjoyed international travel, were active in the First United Methodist Church of Clearwater and Belleair Country Club.
Lou was very talented and creative. She was a painter, an adept seamstress, and her skills included knitting, needlepoint, and other crafts. In addition to her creativity, Lou’s sharp wit, intellect and great sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.
Lou is predeceased by her first husband, Bill Tanney, her second husband, John Meek, Sr. and her stepson, John Meek, Jr. Survivors include her daughters, Shawn Tanney Richards of Belleair and Leigh Tanney (Robert) Lasley of Sarasota, sons, Drew (Tee) Tanney of Brentwood, TN and Todd Tanney of Clearwater, stepson, Dan (Sharon) Meek of Clearwater, Pattie Meek of Belleair, 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren (soon to be 8), and dear friends, Carrie and Willie Dixon of Largo.
