

Luther Davis Evans, 95, of Dunedin, passed away on September 16, 2024. He was born in New York City, New York to Luther and Myra Evans on November 7, 1928. Luther enlisted in the United States Marine Corp at the age of 17 and served from 1945-1948 being awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. After he served, he returned home to complete his High School Education in 1950. Luther met Joan Bazemore as part of the youth group at Broadway Temple Methodist Church where they married on May 26, 1951. Luther had a career in law enforcement serving as a patrolman and detective for 20 years with the NYPD. After retiring in 1972, he moved with his family to Florida.
Luther was a natural athlete and enjoyed many sports over the years – skiing, diving, swimming, boxing, football, racquetball and most recently cycling. He played football for the USMC in the China Bowl in 1948. He was an avid cyclist and loved to be outdoors.
Another passion of Luther’s was studying God’s word with his friends at the Community Men’s Bible Study where his faith in Christ blossomed. He attended Clearwater Community Church with his family for more than 20 years. His family brought him much joy, and he enjoyed spending time with them.
Luther is survived by his wife of 73 years, Joan, his children Keith Evans (Tenie), Wendy Stryker (Cameron), his grandchildren Kylie Schmidt (Jordan), Kevin Stryker (Kaley), Jonathan Stryker, Brittany Evans, Austin Evans, and Great Grand Children Sarah, Jason, and Micah Schmidt and Addison and Layne Stryker.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Clearwater Community Church, 2897 Belcher Road, Dunedin, FL.
