Right out of high school at the age of 17, he joined the Marines. He proudly fought in the Korean War. He was wounded in action and ultimately was honorably discharged with various honors. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Korean Service, U.N. Service, National Defense, and Good Conduct Medals. Semper Fi ! He returned to MA and his civilian career began working for his father at Conway Imports in Boston selling specialty food to restaurants and country clubs through out New England. He became an incredible salesman! The best! He eventually moved to Ft. Lauderdale , FL for a sales job opportunity in the food industry . This is where he met the love of his life, Joanne Hester. His career took him to tremendous opportunities to include partial ownership of a center of the plate meat company in Tampa, FL toward the end of his career. The family would reside in Clearwater, FL for many years. Marty and Joanne were married 56 years and created a beautiful family to include adopting son Matthew and 4 years later , daughter Brooke. He committed many years on the board of The Children’s Home Society to honor the adoptions and was so very proud of his service! Tennis was his passion for many years ! He fondly enjoyed going on cruises through out the world with Joanne too. Family was first and foremost. He'd always figure out ways to get everyone together and just sit back and watch everyone with a huge smile of joy on his face! For several years, he’d rent a house for a month on Manasota Key beach for the entire family to enjoy. Beautiful memories were made there because of his generosity.
