Philomena was born and raised in Sligo, Ireland, then emigrated to the U.S. to start a new life. One night, she begrudgingly agreed to join her sister, Sadie, at an Irish dance where she met her future husband, John. The two lived happily together for almost 6 decades starting in Brooklyn then to Queens Village NY, then to West Chester, PA, then later in life moved to Palm Harbor and eventually too Clearwater, FL.
Philomena proudly held the position of President of the Lioness Club in Queens Village, NY. She volunteered at Our Lady of Lourdes school library, church rectory and church Bingo. Moreover, the role she cherished the most was being a stay-at-home mom where she kept a very close eye on her children through the curtains in the front windows (much to their dismay). She enjoyed a good book (mostly mysteries), a night out of dancing and always lots of laughter. So many often described her as “so sweet”, “adorable” and “so much fun to talk to” with her famous ‘gift of the gab’. She never hesitated to lend an ear to anyone needing a friendly, empathetic voice (with her Irish Brogue that everyone loved). In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with grandchildren. Facetime was sometimes tricky to for her navigate but with the guidance of her Grandchildren it became one of her favorite things to do. She appreciated the technology which allowed her to see people’s faces.
Philomena is survived by her husband, John Myers, with whom she had a wonderful 59 years of marriage; her brother Patrick McHugh & Marian; sons Brian, Andrew & Coleen (wife), Eric, daughter Tracy Milliman & David (husband) along with 7 grandchildren…Kelsey, Christopher, Patrick, Hannah, Erin, Brennan and Hayden. Philomena was preceded in death by her brother John McHugh & Kathleen (wife) and sister Sarah “Sadie” Solo (living husband Dennis). In addition, niece Colleen ‘Solo’ Rodriquez, who lives relatively nearby was always very special to Philomena and a huge help in times of need.
All those who loved her are invited to a Celebration of her Life at Regency Oaks – on Friday, Feb 3rd at 1pm -2701 Regency Oaks Blvd, Clearwater (South Building).
