Mary passed peacefully early Wednesday morning, May 13th, in Peachtree City, Georgia with her loving husband of 61 years, Bruce Tober, at her side. Mary and Bruce resided on Lake Oconee in Eatonton, Georgia and split time in recent years between the lake and a residence next to their daughter, Karen Tober Bost, in Peachtree City.
Mary was born on June 3, 1934 in Clearwater and enjoyed her childhood around the water with a wonderful and close family, her mother, Bertha Brady; her grandfather, William Penn Ledbetter; three brothers and a multitude of aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her father, Ralph Lacy Brady, died when she was very young. Upon graduation from Clearwater High School in 1951, she attended St. Petersburg Business College and worked in downtown Clearwater for Bell Telephone. She and Bruce, also a graduate of CHS, married in 1958 and lived in multiple states, Missouri, New York, back to Florida a few times, multiple places in Georgia, Texas twice, Oklahoma, and Indiana, in the early years of their marriage before settling in the Stone Mountain, Georgia area. There she split time between motherhood and managing the finances of their contracting business. In their spare time they naturally gravitated to water, lots of memories from lakes in Georgia and Florida, spring-feed rivers, Clearwater Bay, the Gulf of Mexico, to the grass flats of Steinhatchee.
Mary and Bruce had two children, Alan Tober married Karen Pinkos Tober living in Virginia; Karen Tober Bost in Georgia; and she is lovingly survived by four grandchildren: Emma and Alec Tober and Mark and Clay Bost. And it would bring great joy to her to directly mention her three loving brothers who passed before her, William Brady, Richard Brady and Fred Brady, that she is now once again sharing great childhood stories with, running around Clearwater Bay.
Mary was loved beyond measure by everyone that knew her, smiled with her eyes and selflessly devoted her life to others.
A visitation for Mary will be held Wednesday, May 20, 2020 from 11:00am to 1:00pm at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759 and a funeral service will immediately follow from 1:00 to 1:30pm. (These events will be held indoors; physical distancing will be possible.) The committal service will follow from 2:00 to 2:15pm at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park. (This is an outdoor event; physical distancing will be possible.)
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.sylvanabbey.com for the Tober family. In lieu of flowers, and to honor the significant challenges that cancer presented (but lost more than it won) in her life, Mary would like donations to be made to the American Cancer Society or other cancer research organizations.
