Monica Cecilia Witt (Cubas), 58, passed away on June 4, 2023 after a two year long battle with stomach cancer. Monica was known as a loving mother, cherished sister, a generous friend, and a dedicated follower of Christ.
Through her example of leading a life of faith, love and generosity, Monica imbued in her children immense inner strength through love and compassion. She was an inspiration to her family and the source of peace throughout life’s ebbs and flows. She was treasured especially by her siblings for her kind and gentle spirit which reflected the great love of their mother Zarela. She shared 34 years of her life with John Wesley Witt jr., the father of their two children. Monica was the best listener, with endless patience and always looked for the positive in any negative situation.
Monica was born on June 22, 1964 to Carlos and Zarela Cubas in Trujillo, Peru. She moved to the United States at the age of 20 and considered Savannah, Georgia her home. She attended Savannah Technical College where she received a 2-year degree in her passion, fashion design, in 1988. She then purchased an alterations shop that she owned for 5 years until she decided to become a stay-at-home mom. However, Monica continued her passion throughout her life. She worked from home doing alterations and she designed, created, altered and collected costumes for the St. Vincent’s / Benedictine School plays from 2011-2022.
In addition to her love of fashion, she loved her faith. She was an active member of the church at St. James Catholic School. She also worked the after-school care program there.
She loved sunsets at the beach, the color fuchsia and chocolates.
Monica was the essence of selfless love, inner strength, and humility. She will be missed by all who knew her.
