A Great Friendship
"The Lord keeps your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever more." Psalm 121:8

Nancy and I have been friends for around 45 years. One nice memory was our walks together. I worked in Clearwater, so we would meet and walk several days a week at Crest Lake after work. We became very close during those walks. We walked and shared about everything: jobs, family, husbands, feelings, and an important thing we had in common – our spiritual path. God was very important to Nancy. She said that she wanted to know more about God and what He wanted her to do with her life. She was always working on being the best she could be. So we walked and talked about that, and often prayed together for our families. There was lots of laughing and there were also lots of tears as we shared about struggles, as well as good times. As I went to other jobs down in St. Pete, we lost touch. Life got very busy. Too many years passed with no contact. In 2018, my phone rang one night and a voice said, “It’s Nancy, do you even remember me?” Of course, I did! That evening, we talked quite a while as she caught me up on her new home at St. Mark’s and some of the reasons that had brought her to a care facility. Friendship Resumed! Often we would talk every day. She always spoke about her family and residents at St. Marks for whom she was praying. We phoned and emailed frequently. She always said positive, grateful things about her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had so much love and concern for all of them and often called to ask for prayer; or to tell me, of good things happening to the newest babies or happy achievements of other kinds. I know I will see Nancy again; and when I do, we will have a joyful reunion. I am remembering that my life is richer for having known and loved Nancy; and in experiencing her love for me.
