Nita F. Akers aged 97, of Clearwater, Florida passed away on January 10, 2020. She was born on November 22, 1922 to Toby and Lida May Maples in Gilbert, Louisiana and grew up In Vicksburg, Mississippi.
Nita was married to Lee Brooks Akers on September 3, 1941. As a military family, much of their life was spent traveling the globe. When they settled in South Carolina, they owned and operated a marina and restaurant. In 1990, they left Manning, SC and made the Top of the World in Clearwater, Florida their forever home. They made many friends from every direction on the map and enjoyed traveling to see them in their retirement years.
Nita was a devoted mother and loved family gatherings or simply spending time with her family and friends. She was a Life-Master bridge player. Nita was an animal lover and a traveler. She enjoyed going on cruises and going to Biloxi for gambling fun.
Nita was predeceased by her husband Brooks in 2007 and her Sister Dot Trimble in 2016. She is survived by her daughter Terri LaCoste of Dunedin; granddaughters, Daphne Hernandez of Tarpon Springs, Sonya Woodmansee of Valrico and Deana Wallace of Tampa; niece Janet Trimble Nelson of Vicksburg, Mississippi; Seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Nita’s Life will be in Vicksburg, Mississippi in the Spring.
