Paul was born September 13, 1925 to Viola Oehler and Arthur Oehler in Wichita KS. (Arthur’s previous spouse and daughter had died in flu Pandemic in 1918). He went to grade school in Wichita and attended Wichita North High School where he ran track.
He graduated from High School in 1943 in the middle of WW II and joined the Navy. He first served on a Navy Destroyer in the North Atlantic and near the end of the war was Captain of a Mobile Dry Dock in Panama.
When the war was over, he enrolled in Kansas University where he met and fell in love with Mabel Susan Brown from Kansas City. They were married in 1947 and when they were expecting their first child (Michael) they left KU and Paul got a job in Kansas City. They then moved back to Wichita where their second child (Paula) was born and Paul got a job with Boeing.
After leaving the Navy he joined the reserves and was recalled into the Navy during the Korean War where he was stationed at Pearl Harbor. Mabel and the kids joined him in Hawaii until he was discharged in 1953.
The family returned to Kansas City where Paul began his carrier with Ford Motor Company. They then moved to Maywood, NJ and Ramsey, NJ when Paul was transferred to the Mawaha Assembly Plant in 1955 and then to Louisville, Kentucky in 1962.
It was when they first moved to Louisville that Mabel and Paul took golf lessons which became a passion for them going forward. In 1982, Mabel was diagnosed with breast cancer and she died in December of that year.
In 1985, Paul and Orva Jean Bolman met, started dating and were married in February, 1986. When they both retired, Paul from Ford and Jean from McGraw Hill in 1987 they moved to Florida and lived there for the next 32 years.
They lived in Fort Myers, Brooksville, Trinity and Clearwater, Florida in retirement. During retirement Paul and Jean enjoyed the good life, playing golf and taking numerous cruises around the world on Holland America Cruise lines. Paul was a lucky man being married to two loving women for such a long time…Mabel for 35 years and Jean for 33 years. Paul is survived by his wife Jean, his son Michael and wife Susan of Jacksonville Florida; his daughter Paula of Taylorsville, Kentucky; three grandsons and 3 great granddaughters.
A Memorial Mass will be held on November 21, 2019 at 10:30 am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, FL
