Born in Joplin, Missouri, on November 24, 1940, to Joseph Edward and Dorothy Lee (Chamless) Dunn, Bob’s early life took him through Missouri, Oklahoma, and Texas. A chance opportunity — a college basketball scholarship — would become a pivotal moment in his life, launching him from humble beginnings toward a life rich in purpose and accomplishment.
Bob played basketball at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in biology. He continued his academic journey at the University of Missouri in Columbia, earning a Master of Science in biology. He began his career in academia, teaching at Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois, before returning to the University of Missouri to pursue a degree in medicine. His medical training included an internship in Los Angeles County, followed by a radiology residency at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, where he served as Chief Resident.
A respected physician and dedicated radiologist, Bob practiced medicine in Kansas City, MO; Tulsa, OK; Pensacola, FL; and Keokuk, IA before settling in the Tampa Bay area, where he lived and worked for over four decades.
Outside of medicine, Bob had a zest for life and a passion for creativity. An avid tennis player in his younger years, he also found joy in crafting beautiful stained-glass art. He loved to travel, bike, walk the beach, and most of all, spend time with his beloved family. His warmth, generosity, and kind spirit touched the lives of many.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers — James, Darrell, and Thomas Dunn. He is survived by his loving wife, Colette; his son Matthew Dunn of Portland, OR; daughters Pamela (Ethan) Erickson of Manhattan, KS, and Christian Scott of Oldsmar, FL; his sister, Mona Lisa Kean of Hamilton, TX; and his cherished grandchildren: William, Lauren, Chase, Morgan Erickson, and Charlie Rose Scott.
Bob will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
