
Robert Lindsay Hill passed away on the 4th of June at Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor, FL following a long illness. A beloved son, brother, and uncle he was born October 8th, 1928 in Rochester, NY, the son of the late Lindsay Wolcott and Idella Mae Hill (Smith) of Syracuse, NY. Bob graduated from Syracuse University School of Engineering in 1950 and earnedf his Professional Engineers license in 1962. Following a tour as a Sergeant in the US Army in the Korean War he returned to Central NY, beginning a successful career as a Mechanical Engineer where he designed paper milling machinery for the Black Clawson company in Fulton. He later worked at the Carrier Corporation before retiring as the Vice President of Quality Control at Kellogg Cereals in Michigan. He was a life member of the New York State and National Society of Professional Engineers. Bob dedicated his time, energy, and financial resources to supporting the Church and the Boy Scouts. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts at all levels. He was the Scout Master in Fulton, NY for many years and later served as a Unit and District Commissioner. He served on the camp staff and the camp steering committee for Sabbatis Boy Scout summer camp in the Adirondacks for 40 years. His dedicated support of the Sabbatis Scout Camps was instrumental in providing thousands of boys camp experiences that helped to shape their lives as adults. Bob was also an active lay member of the United Methodist Church everywhere he lived. He was an usher, Treasurer, Men’s group leader and a Trustee. He spent thousands of hours supporting the Camps at Aldersgate and Casowasco in NY both with program leadership and modernization of facilities and computer infrastructure systems. In his retirement he traveled and pursued his interests in photography and computer programming. Bob is survived by: his sister Ruth of Unadilla, NY, his niece Tina Bliss Moran of Staten Island, NY, his nephews Douglas Bliss of Otego, NY, Robert Emblidge of Richmond, VA, and John Emblidge of Waterford, CT and 6 grand-nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his parents Lindsay and Idella Hill and his sister Dorothy (Hill) Emblidge. A memorial service will be held at St Marks Village in the chapel on 16 June 2017 at 2 PM. Burial will follow in July at the family plot in Syracuse, NY.
