

Robert Matthew Schaeffer, lovingly known as “Pop” and “Cueball,” passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on May 30, 2026, at the age of 76 in Clearwater, Florida. Born on April 7, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, Matt lived a life defined by adventure, determination, humility, and deep love for his family.
Matt was the kind of person who truly embraced life. Whether he was golfing, fishing, spending time outdoors, enjoying the family farm in Ohio, hiking, cycling, swimming, or simply enjoying nature, he found joy in every adventure. He had a driven spirit, a selfless heart, and a “never give up” attitude that inspired everyone around him. He was fun-loving, quick with humor, humble in his accomplishments, and happiest when surrounded by family and friends.
Matt graduated from Oakwood High School in Dayton, Ohio, and went on to attend the University of Tennessee. He built a successful career as a Certified Public Accountant and later enjoyed retirement while continuing to stay active, involved, and always on the move. Throughout his life, he served on various boards and was respected for his leadership, work ethic, and willingness to help others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabel and Robert Schaeffer.
Matt is survived by his beloved wife, Jan; his children, Christopher Schaeffer (Rhonda), Gregory Schaeffer (Michele), and Emily Farrell (Matt); loving mother of his children, Nancy; his stepchildren, Kevin (Lydia) and Kyle (Katie); his nine cherished grandchildren, Savannah, Cole, Nathaniel, Bradley, Noah, Ben, Madison, Caroline, and Callie; and his siblings, Lucia Kunst, Diane Fisher, and Mark Schaeffer. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
The family asks that Matt be remembered for the way he lived - fully, generously, and always with optimism and perseverance.
