Roderick Jeffrey Tyack, 86, of St. Petersburg, Florida, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 27, 2026. Rod was born on May 18, 1940, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, to Harriet Louise Hughes and Dick Tyack. He graduated from Ligonier Valley High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1964 as a flight engineer. He was also a veteran of the Vietnam War.
On July 17, 1971, Rod married the love of his life, Jean Ann Gabsa, in Long Island, New York. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, laughter, and countless memories, remaining devoted partners for 55 years until Rod's passing.
Rod had many passions throughout his life. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, and building things with his own hands. There was a special satisfaction in making something himself, whether working in the garden, fixing or building something, or simply finding a way to bring an idea to life. He also had a lifelong fascination with science fiction, a passion that reflected his curiosity and imagination.
Rod was also an amazing cook and took great pleasure in feeding the people he loved. Rod and Jean’s home was always a welcoming place, filled with good food, laughter, and the sound of family and friends. Their house became the place where all the kids wanted to be- a home where they could come as they were, feel comfortable, and always know they were welcome. Rod was especially kind and generous to the children who were always hanging around. He fed them, looked after them, and treated them as though they were his own. For so many, their home was more than just a place to visit; it was a place where they felt safe, loved, accepted, and at home.
Rod is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Ann Tyack; his children, William Edward Tyack and Heather Aine Tyack; his grandchildren, Hannah Marie Tyack and William Nicholas Tyack; and his great-granddaughter, Ava Soukita Tyack.
A graveside service with the presentation of military honors will be held on Monday, October 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Bay Pines National Cemetery in Bay Pines, Florida.
