The soul and spirit of Ronald P. Nisk left this earth on June 20, 2013. He passed away surrounded by his loving family after a seventeen year courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Ron was born in Chicago on September 12, 1932. At the age of 11, he moved to Trout Lake in the Minocqua area of Wisconsin with his parents who operated The Rocky Reef Resort. Ron continued his education in a two room school, Boulder Junction Grade School, attended Northwestern Military Academy and graduated from Minocqua High School in 1951.
Ron married Alice Emma Henrietta Ottow on September 12, 1954 following their junior year of college.
Ron graduated in 1956 from the University of Wisconsin majoring in a relatively new major of Real Estate. At the age of 21, he took the Wisconsin real estate broker exam and became the youngest in the state to receive his broker license. Following graduation, Ron was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Military Police Corp serving for six months. After his military stint, he worked for a short time in real estate but decided to try the corporate world, working in Wausau, WI, at Pure Oil as a district sales manager. But with a degree and passion in real estate, he started his own real estate company in northern Wisconsin in 1960. Ron, a true pioneer in real estate, had fresh ideas for lake property development with a planned approach and deed restrictions, not previously utilized in northern Wisconsin. He developed thousands of acres of virgin lake frontage during his career and built summer homes.
Promising Florida investment opportunities lead Ron and his family to Clearwater, Florida in 1974. Ron successfully pursued commercial real estate ventures for nearly four decades, including property management, lakeshore development, and the acquisition and development of: office/warehouse projects, shopping centers, fast food restaurants, commercial/industrial complexes. He was active in the Real Estate Brokers Board and the Real Estate Brokerage Exchange Club. Ron’s core values of integrity and honesty dictated his business practices, resulting in long term relationships with his business partners.
Throughout Ron’s life he enjoyed basketball, tennis, ping pong, football, golf, fishing, sailing, boating, flying and Gin Rummy. Ron will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate to have known him. His memory will live on for his warm friendly nature, fun-loving nurturing spirit, and for his valuable advice as a mentor to his friends and family. He traveled extensively with his family throughout the US, Europe, Costa Rica, and Australia. He was generous in his support of his church, the Salvation Army, the Religious Community Services, the Doorways Program and the Clearwater Free Clinic.
Ron was preceded in death by his daughter Valerie in 2006. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, uncle and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his wife Alice of 58 years, daughter Alicia, his grandchildren Shelley and Joseph Albee, son-in-law and his wife Rick and Alison Albee, his sister-in-law Erna Mainhardt and many relatives from both sides of the family.
Visitation will be on Friday, June 28 from 5 to 7 pm at Moss Feaster Funeral Home at 693 South Belcher Road, Clearwater.
