

Roy is survived by his loving children, Craig (Mary Kay) of Tampa and Naperville, IL, and Judy (Larry) Ayers of Old Saybrook, CT; his cherished grandchildren, Allison (Chris) Haas, Daniel (Courtney) Funkhouser, Emily (Eric) deRegt, Samuel (Andie) Ayers, and John (Alyssa) Ayers; six great-grandchildren, Maren Haas, Graham Haas, Finn Funkhouser, Francie Funkhouser, Penelope deRegt, and Willow deRegt; sister-in-law Bonnie (Leonard) Hausman; and four nieces and one nephew.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Barbara; his parents, Roy and Verna Funkhouser; and his sister, Jane.
Roy was a graduate of Morgan Park High School in Chicago. Thereafter, he enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and, upon discharge, graduated from the University of Illinois. Roy worked in Chicago as a Commercial Loan Officer for Harris Trust and Savings Bank, Central National Bank, and The Avenue Bank of Oak Park.
He married Barbara on January 28, 1955. They settled in Naperville in 1955 and were members of Community United Methodist Church, participated in various bridge groups, and were members of Naperville Country Club. Roy was active in numerous community organizations, including the Naperville Y’s Men’s Association and Naperville Jaycees. He also was a past president of The Illini Club of Chicago.
Upon retiring to Florida in 1988, Roy was active in the United Methodist Church, continued to play competitive bridge, and was President of his homeowners association. He was most proud of being an active blood donor throughout his working years and well into retirement.
In accordance with Roy’s wishes, his body will be donated to The University of Florida College of Medicine for medical education and research purposes.
