Sandra Sue Conaty

Sandy was the first female patrol officer for the City of Dunedin Police Department. She proudly served the public and loved working with her team of officers. Sandy earned her bachelor’s degree at Western Carolina University. She transitioned into a career that included supervising and mentoring youth in residential group homes, doing outreach health education, and working with parents and their children to guide them in learning to live as stronger families through better life choices.

Sandy absolutely loved being outdoors in nature, playing softball, raising her family through many happy camping trips, and hiking in her beloved Great Smoky Mountains. She also loved walking along the sunny beaches of the Florida Gulf coast and always found great joy in simply observing and being a part of nature.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Hershall and Audrey Nickell and her sister Patty Summers, all of Springfield, OH. She is survived by her partner of 33 years, Susan Steiner; brothers Jim (Nancy), Steve, and sister Robin (John). Sandy is also survived by her amazing daughter Melisa Cabe (Chris Smith), grandson Nick Yuzzi and great grandchildren Emma Hawkins and Cole Yuzzi. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sandy’s name to St.Jude Children’s Hospital.
