Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life, he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
For Shirl Corkill, the answer was a resounding, “Yes!”
Shirley “Shirl” Corkill, 86, was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, August 4th under hospice care after a long battle with autoimmune rheumatoid arthritis.
Known as “Chicago Shirl” to family and close friends, Shirl was born in Chicago, IL on March 4, 1935 to Robert and Anna Gossrow. It was there she married and raised her two sons and welcomed two granddaughters, into a home filled with music and laughter. When she retired from the Oak Park school district, she fulfilled her dream of moving to the beach! If sharing the excitement of Chicago to her grandchildren was a joy, introducing them to her love of the Gulf waters was a true blessing. In addition, she was overwhelmed with pride to share this wonder with three great grandchildren. When not entertaining family, she could be found cooking for friends, watching her Bears or Bucs play football, traveling, and seeing the world on cruises, all while wearing her iconic pink lipstick and nail polish. She was very strong in her faith and rest assured, if you ever met Shirl, she prayed for you.
Shirl was saddened by the passing of her father, mother, and brother Robert Gossrow before her, but her belief in her Savior Jesus Christ has reaffirmed that they are now reunited in Heaven.
Shirl is survived by two loving sons Dale Corkill of St. Petersburg, FL, Don Corkill of Austin, TX, Two granddaughters Colleen Lees of Des Moines, IA and Kelly Corkill of Belmond, IA. Her nephew Jeffery Gossrow and his son Ethan and three great-grandchildren.
