Shirley Mae Olbrecht

Shirley was born on May 25, 1936, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Florence Violet (née Ruling) and Frederick Arthur Kleinke. She graduated from Fenger High School in Chicago with the Class of 1954.

In 1968, Shirley married the love of her life, Chester Olbrecht. Together, they shared a beautiful marriage filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories until his passing in 2008.

Shirley was a dedicated and hardworking woman. Over the years, she worked as a secretary for Cooper-Jarrett Trucking and later retired from Nalco Chemical Company in 1976. She was also a former member of Lord of Life Church in Elburn, Illinois.

Those who knew Shirley will remember her for her kind and genuine heart, her incredible strength, and her independent spirit. She was strong-willed, spunky, funny, and never afraid to speak her mind. She worked hard throughout her life and was a source of strength and support for her family. Shirley found joy in the simple things: gardening, dancing, music, and especially animals. Her beloved dogs held a very special place in her heart.

Shirley loved Florida long before making it her permanent home. After many years of enjoying winters there as a snowbird, she moved to Florida full-time in 2016, embracing the sunshine, warmth, and beautiful life she had created there.

Above all, Shirley was the heart and mainstay of her family. Her love, strength, humor, and unwavering devotion will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of family, friendship, laughter, and love.

Shirley is survived by her beloved daughter, Sharon (Thomas) Freund; her sister, Joyce Mauge; grandchildren, Courtney (John) Petscher and Brittany Bradley; great-grandson, Logan Meyer; and many extended family members and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Olbrecht, and siblings, Fred Cowan and Carol Caruss.

Shirley will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army in Shirley’s memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
