

Shirley “Sal” Pope, 92, formerly of Blue Island, IL died June 25, 2021 at St. Mark Village, Palm Harbor, FL. Devoted mother of John (Mary Fran Callahan) Pope, Arlington Heights, IL and Sally (Stephen) Mullin, Cornwall, ON, Canada. Loving sister of Sharon Occhipinti, Wesley Chapel, FL. Cherished grandmother of Sam (Taylor) Pope, Hannah Pope-Pettey (Alex Pettey), Amanda, Ashley and Ryan Mullin. Dear sister-in-law of Betty Leathers. Fond aunt of Alex (Genoa) Occhipinti, Roger Wade, Jerre Leathers, Pat Wallace, and great-aunt of Grace Occhipinti and Brooke Wallace. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, E. Wayne Pope, parents C. Herbert and Nettie Leathers, and brother Leo Leathers.
Sal was a graduate of Carthage College, B.A., English and Biology and received a Master of Arts in Science Teaching from Governors State University. She had a passion for teaching and was a high school Science teacher at District 218 in southwest suburban Chicago for many years and was also a former teacher at First Lutheran School in Blue Island, IL. Services to be at a later date with inurnment at Patty Cemetery, Pontiac, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to St. Mark Village Continuing Care Fund.
