Throughout his life, Shirley worked in many trades, including coal mining, logging, plumbing, electrical work, and HVAC. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever needed. Shirley also proudly served his country in the United States Army with the 101st Airborne Division during the Korean War.
A talented woodworker and lover of the outdoors, Shirley found joy in spending time in nature and sharing that passion with his family. Some of his grandchildren’s fondest memories are of the long hikes they took together through the mountains. Although he grew up with very little, Shirley worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed and wanted.
Nothing brought Shirley greater happiness than being surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He spoke of them with immense pride and cherished the time they spent working alongside him on projects. Through his example, he taught his family the value of hard work, integrity, and kindness.
Shirley was married to the love of his life, Margaret, for 68 wonderful years. Margaret preceded him in death.
