GIBSON JR, STANLEY G. “Stan” 89, of Pinellas Park and formerly of Tampa, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018. He was born on July 30, 1928 in Atlanta, GA to the late Stanley Gibson and Cora Gibson Smith. Stanley grew up in Atlanta but his career took him to Savannah and throughout the Tampa Bay
area over the years. Stan retired after 42 years in the banking industry. He began his career
with the Federal Reserve in Atlanta and after numerous advancements he retired from Bank of
America as an Executive Vice President. Some of the best times in his career were spent in his
role with Ellis Banking Corporation. There he held the positions of Executive Vice President,
Deputy Regional Executive, Chairman of the Board and Senior Managing Officer of several
subsidiary banks whereby he was involved in the organization, purchase and acquisition of
these banks. He remained an Officer on the Board of Directors for the Ellis Foundation until his
death. Stan served his country in the Air Force and afterwards put himself through college
while working, raising a family and going to school part-time. He graduated from Georgia State
University with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting, but was a
lifelong fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. Stan was a collector of coins, stamps, owls and English
Bulldogs, especially if they were named UGA. In his lifetime he was a cartoonist, wood worker
and created phenomenal landscapes. Stan loved a good time, had a great sense of humor and
was a practical jokester. He was a great father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle
and friend. He will be missed. Stan leaves behind daughters Debbie McCoy and Deanah
Gibson Soto. Grandchildren Sarah McCoy, Ryan Soto, Molly Turpin, Erin Soto, and Elliott Soto.
Great grandson Everett Turpin. Siblings Sharion Dutton and Weyman Smith. He was
predeceased by his wife Vada. Visitation will be at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, April 17 at
12:00, service at 1:00.
