

He was born on August 21, 1932, in Waycross, Georgia, to his late parents, Lorenz and Hazel Tanner. Walter lived a life defined by dedication, service, and deep love for his family.
A proud career serviceman, Walter served in the United States Army for many years, ultimately retiring with the rank of Colonel. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and he carried the values of discipline, honor, and leadership throughout his life.
Beyond his military career, Walter found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved spending time on the golf course, boating under the Florida sun, and creating lasting memories with his family. He was also known to occasionally enjoy a good cigar, a quiet moment reflecting a life well lived.
Walter was preceded in death by his brother, Vernon Tanner, and his sister, Barbara Crum.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann Tanner; his son, David; his daughter, Theresa: and his cherished grandchildren, Annie, Teddy, and Sean, all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
A service to honor Walter’s life will be held on May 9th at 1:00 PM at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service with full military honors at 3:00 PM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
