

William (Bill) Howard Baumgartner, 73 of Clearwater, Florida, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Cross Terrace Rehabilitation Center in Dunedin, FL after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. Bill was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 4, 1944 to Ralston Baumgartner and Bernice Shoup Baumgartner. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Schaubroeck Baumgartner, son Rick Baumgartner and wife Julie, daughter Lisa Altman and husband Jon, three loving grandchildren: Kaitlin, Alex, and Jack Baumgartner; two step-grandchildren: Cody and Chanda Schoh. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Baumgartner Vuotto; brother Gary (Gus) Baumgartner and his wife Trudy; sister Debra Baumgartner Condon and her husband Tom; and sister Barbara Godbey MacIntosh and husband Jon; and nieces and nephews: Tony Constable, Joe and Tim Wanger, Nicki Baumgartner Lay, Amber Baumgartner Fowler, Zak and Beau Spicer.
Bill grew up in Milford, Ohio and graduated Milford High School in 1961. It was there where he met the love of his life Nancy and had 2 loving children, Rick and Lisa. Bill started working for Kroger’s as a teen-aged stock-boy and then progressed to manager at Allied Foods. From there he worked as a manager with Steak and Shake until he moved his family to Louisville, KY in 1979 and became manager of the locally-renown Hickory House. In 1982, he was able to achieve his dream of owning and running a grocery store of his own: Steve’s Market in Sellersburg, IN. Bill eventually went back to being a manager of Steak and Shake at several locations in the Southern Indiana/Louisville, KY area in 1993 until he retired in 2008. Bill and Nancy became snowbirds in 2013 splitting their time between Jeffersonville, IN and New Port Richey, FL until they moved permanently to Clearwater, FL in 2015. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, nephew and son to us all. He will be sincerely missed!
Bill was a 7-year member of the Army National Guard and a 50-year member of the Oakley Masonic Chapter in Cincinnati, Ohio and 48-year member of the Syrian Shrine in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Funeral Service will begin at noon Wednesday Feb 15th at Serenity Funeral Home, 13401 Indian Rocks Rd, Largo, FL 33774. Visitation will begin at 10am prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Entombment will be at the Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park Mausoleum: 2853 Sunset Point Rd, Clearwater, FL at approximately 1:30PM.
