
William G. Kurtz, Jr., born on July 2, 1927, in Rockville Centre, NY, peacefully passed away on October 3, 2023, in Clearwater, FL, leaving a profound legacy behind. He is survived by his cherished children: Mary Ellin Kurtz, Rosemary Kurtz, and Paul Kurtz, along with his daughter-in-law Arleen Kurtz. William was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Patricia.
A beacon of strength and love, William was a devoted grandfather to Daniel Kurtz, Robert Kurtz, Christopher Kurtz, Rebecca Topol, and Johnathan Topol, whose lives he enriched with boundless affection and wisdom.
William's journey began at St. John's University in Queens, New York, where lifelong friendships were forged, and where he met his love, Patricia McGuane. His pursuit of higher education there culminated in a law degree from Georgetown University School of Law, marking a pinnacle in his academic endeavors.
Professionally, William played an instrumental role in the evolution and nationwide expansion of the JCPenney retail chain, leaving an indelible mark on the retail landscape.
Beyond his professional pursuits, William shared a deep passion for recreational boating, a love that transcended generations within his family. This shared interest bound him closely to his brothers, parents, and children.
Bill will be remembered not only for his professional triumphs but also for his unwavering devotion to family, his zest for life, and his abiding love for the open waters. While his physical presence may be absent, his spirit and influence will endure in the hearts and lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Memorial services will be held at the Sylvan Abbey Mausoleum, 2051 Soule Road, Clearwater, FL, January 16, at 11 AM. All are welcome to attend.
