

Zinzow, William A, 88, of Longwood, FL, formerly of Clearwater passed away Sept 14th. Born in New Concord, OH to Helen Page and William August Zinzow. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carolyn; children Lee Alan Zinzow, Winston-Salem, NC, Dale Lynn Retter, Wichita, KS, Cheryl Ruderman, Maitland, FL; sister Kathryn Schnaidt, MN; 9 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren. Bill was an Eagle Scout 1939. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy 1943- 1946 Quartermaster 2nd class); served on Henry A. Wiley, a destroyer providing Marine fire support for marines at Iwo Jima, and ground forces at Okinawa, radar picket duty, and mine sweeping; fought off 64 suicide attacks, destroyed 15 enemy aircraft; awarded 4 battle stars; ship’s crew awarded Presidential Unit Citation and the Captain was awarded the Navy Cross for his action at Okinawa. He graduated Feb., 1948 (Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, PA) Bill was a Sales representative for Reynolds Aluminum 1952-1982. Hobbies include beekeeping, singing (sacred music), travel, organizing 15 WW II ship reunions since 1988 and writing 140 Newsletters. He was active in church and civic affairs, Kiwanis (President of Springtime City Club, Clearwater- 1978). Family will receive friends Saturday from 2 – 3 with a service at 3 all at the Moss Feaster Funeral Home, Belcher Road Chapel.
