Adrian “Mark” Schmal was born May 11, 1968 in Atlanta, Georgia to Nancy Hungate Keen and Kurt William Schmal. Mark was a strong man of faith and went to be with the Lord in Winston-Salem, NC in May of 2022 at the age of 54.
Mark was preceded in death by his loving stepfather Paul Keen, Jr. and his brother Kurt William Schmal II. He and Kurt had a very special brotherly bond and knew each other better than anyone. Mark always idolized his big brother…
In 2016, Mark came to NC from Florida and truly tried to make a life for himself with the support and encouragement of his mother. The family is thankful to Maple Springs United Methodist Church, Pastor Jeff Coppley, Daymark Recovery Services, and Kernersville Dodge for seeing the potential Mark had to offer this world and while also recognizing his life-long struggles.
Mark had a somewhat tough exterior, but he was a gentle, generous soul. We were blessed to have him for 54 years and do not take that for granted. Mark has now reached his potential by being resurrected. We love you and miss you brother, son, and friend.
While many unnamed will miss Mark, those in his family include his mother, Nancy Keen of Winston-Salem, NC; his father, Kurt Schmal of Orlando, FL; his oldest sister, Jodie Teeters (Dave Teeters) of Granger, IN; his youngest sister, Susanne Schmal (Molly Cook) of Durham, NC; his youngest brother, Hans Schmal (Monica Saori) of Humble, TX; and Christian of Orlando, FL.
Mark was a talented golfer from a young age, loved playing Pee-Wee football as a young boy, enjoyed fishing in Florida with his dad and brother, and eating chicken wings and ice cream with his mother while watching tv. He also loved his four-legged fur-babies, including his most recent, a black Labrador mix, named Brody, and sweet Pittie he rescued, named Fire.
The family would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts, outreach, and prayers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Daymark Recovery Services of Forsyth County or the Forsyth Humane Society of Winston-Salem, NC.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.frankvoglerandsonsclemmons.com for the Schmal family.
