She was born on May 12, 1921 in Dover, NH to the late Henry Gorman and Margaret Mills. Anne received her bachelor’s degree from Simmons College in Boston. She worked for the DuPont Company in Wilmington, DE, where she met and married her life partner Arthur Saum. They had 4 children, David, Richard, Jeanne (Wine) and Christine.
She lived in Waynesboro, VA, Camden, SC, and Winston-Salem, NC. She was always active in her church and community including at the Waynesboro Public Library, the Red Cross, and Reynolda House. She worked for a time as a Rural Mail Carrier. She was an avid reader and was a longtime member of a Great Books Group in Waynesboro. Her many talents included great skill at the game of bridge, tenacious solving of the daily Jumble and great pie-making talents. She and Arthur shared their love of books and travel with their entire family.
She is preceded in death by her husband and two of her children, Richard and Christine Saum. Anne leaves behind her son, David Saum (Susan Marino) of Falls Church, VA; her daughter, Jeanne Wine (David Logan); grandchildren, Ben and Daniel Logan (Sofia Perez); daughter-in-law, Mary Breitenstein; and many other loved ones and dear friends.
The family will have a memorial service at Salemtowne Retirement Community in Winston-Salem on May 8th at 7 PM.
