

Mrs. Pittman was born in Orange County, North Carolina on May 27, 1935 to the late John Workman and Willie Mae Sanford Workman. She grew up in Hillsborough and graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1954. While in high school, Betty Gene took a job driving the school bus, helping her fellow classmates (and herself) get to school each day.
Betty Gene retired as a bank teller from First Union. In retirement, she continued to work in banking at SunTrust and Wells Fargo. Betty Gene also volunteered for Wake Forest Baptist Health in Clemmons.
She was a wonderful gardener. Betty Gene would plant flowers, vegetables, and take care of her coveted blueberry bushes each year. Her green thumb she proudly passed down to her children. Betty Gene loved her family deeply. She was a loving mother and adoring grandmother and great grandmother.
Betty Gene leaves behind her children, Diana P. Jones (Mark) and Phillip Leslie Pittman; grandchildren, Amanda Dyer (Jacob) and Hannah Freeman (Patrick); great grandchildren, JohnMark and Aubrey Dyer; and sister, Mary Anna Agnew (Don).
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 21st from 6-8pm at Frank Vogler & Sons in Clemmons. A graveside service will be held on Friday at noon at Fairfield Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Efland.
