Betty was born on January 9, 1942, and was a devoted homemaker who dedicated her life to the people she loved most—her family. She found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life, especially quilting and sewing. Her hands were rarely still, and through her
crafts she created beautiful things that will remain treasured reminders of her love and care.
Betty shared 63 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Robert Smith. Their story began long before their marriage. They had known each other since they were just two years old, growing up in the Bronx, New York. Their lifelong journey together was built on love, devotion, family, and countless memories.
Family was the heart of Betty’s life, and she cherished the time spent with those she loved.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Robert Smith, and her children, Father Sean Patrick and Christopher Robert. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kelly, as well as her parents, Cameron Phifer and Agnes O’Leary. Kelly and Christopher
proudly served their country in the United States Navy, both retiring after distinguished careers. Betty’s love for her family was unwavering, and the memories she created with them will be treasured always.
Betty also shared an extraordinary lifelong friendship with Bernadette O'Connor, Robert’s sister, who was her best friend for 81 years. Their friendship, beginning in childhood, was a beautiful testament to the lasting bonds that can carry us through an entire lifetime.
Betty will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her generous heart, her love of quilting and sewing, and the warmth she brought to those around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue through the family she cherished so deeply.
Though she will be greatly missed, Betty’s memory will live on in every stitch, every family story, and every heart she touched.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Betty’s life during visitation on Sunday, September 13, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home in Clemmons, North Carolina.
