

Mrs. Beulah "Boots" Hampton Southerland, 86, went to Heaven Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born July 15, 1927 in Boone, the daughter of Russell and Fannie Herman Hampton. She was a member of Beck's Baptist Church and taught many Children's Choirs at various churches in the area. A person who played and taught the piano professionally, Boots traveled and sang both on the radio and in concerts with her sisters when she was younger in Boone. She used her knowledge she learned from growing up on a farm, to garden, cook and minister to many by cooking for those who were in need. Boots always enjoyed being around her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard Southerland in 2005; her two sisters, Dawn Shepherd and Mable "Beth" Trivett and two brothers, J.R. Hampton and Wendell Carroll Hampton. Survivors include her children, Dee Wood and husband, Larry of Clemmons, Betty Williams and husband, Darrell of Winston-Salem and Larry Keith Southerland and wife, Elaine of Winston-Salem; a sister, Verdola Cook and husband, Gary of Boone; four grandchildren, Robert Hudspeth of Boone, David Hudspeth of Winston-Salem, Dean Williams of Roswell, GA and Susan Connolly of Dayton, OH; three great-grand children, Emma Hudspeth, Jackson Hudspeth and Zachary Williams and many nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday March 1st at Beck's Baptist Church by the Rev. Dr. Karl Ray Minor. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday February 28th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Frank Vogler and Sons, Reynolda Chapel.
