Born in Cordova, Alabama, to the late Grady and Bessie Alexander, Charles lived a humble life defined by hard work, devotion to God, and a passionate dedication to his family.
Charles dedicated over 40 years to the field of telecommunications, providing expert service for Western Electric, BellSouth, AT&T, Lucent, and Charles E. Singleton. Outside of his professional life, he was a true outdoorsman who found peace while fishing. In his retirement, his passion for nature evolved into a stewardship of the environment; he joined the Yadkin County Beekeepers Association, becoming a protector of honeybees and a producer of honey. True to his nature, he shared what he produced freely, never expecting payment from anyone.
A man of profound faith, Charles was a member of the Salisbury church of Christ and a former member of the Winston-Salem church of Christ, where he was instrumental in the congregation's establishment. To the children of the church, he was affectionately known as the "candy man." He never went anywhere without a small bag of Tootsie Rolls or his signature honey candy, ensuring that every person he crossed paths with left with a small token of his kindness.
Charles was a loving husband, a devoted father, and a proud brother who displayed gentleness and hospitality to everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Lynda (Moss) Alexander, as well as his brothers, Gilbert and Carl.
His legacy is carried on by his wife, Barbara (Yost) Alexander; his three sons, Clay (Ashley) of Knoxville, TN, Chad (Kathy) of Lexington, NC, and Clint (Melissa) of Venice, FL; his brothers, Lowell and Herbert; and his sister, Mary. He was the proud "PaPaw" to eight grandchildren: Chase, Parker, Logan, and Cooper of Lexington; Brayden and Blake of Knoxville; Lucy of Venice; and Delilah Nelson of Williamsburg, VA. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, March 5th from 5pm-7pm at Frank Vogler & Sons Funeral Home. The funeral service will be on Friday at 11am at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Westlawn Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or your local beekeepers' association.
