Clarissa was born to Roby and Clara Painter and spent early years growing up in Banner Elk, NC, a place that was always special to her. Later in life, she returned to her roots, finding comfort and joy in the familiarity of the mountains she loved.
After completing college, Clarissa worked as a Medical Technologist at Old City Hospital in Winston Salem, where she dedicated herself to caring for others with quiet skill and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Yama and leaves behind sisters Cozie Cooley (Harry, deceased) and Eloise Plavney (Cedric, deceased). Her brothers Steve Painter (Patsy), Sankey Moore-Painter (Terry), and Zeno Painter (Barbara).
Clarissa was a devoted mother to her daughters Debbie Mansfield and Donna Changela (Atul), who carry forward her strength, warmth and unwavering love. She was a proud and cherished grandmother to Gracyn Mansfield, Mallory Mansfield, Brianna Rodriguez (Robbey), Clarissa Changela and Dylan Changela and loving great-grandmother to Savani and Maliya Rodriguez.
Known for her gentle spirit and creative hands, Clarissa found great joy in gardening and crafting. Whether tending to her garden or creating something beautiful to share, she brought life and color into the world around her. Her home was often a place of warmth, growth and quiet beauty-much like Clarissa herself.
She will be remembered for her deep love of family, her resilience, and the simple meaningful way she lived her life. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will continue to bloom in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
In honor of Clarissa, memorial contributions may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
A celebration of life will be held at later date.
