Courtney Ann Coghill of Winston-Salem died September 29, 2026 at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center. Her death at age 55 brought a merciful and peaceful end to a long, arduous journey of chronic and debilitating illness, even as her earthly death ushered her into the loving arms of God and into a life of joy forever free of pain and suffering.
Over the course of her life, Courtney faced incredible adversity. She did so with tremendous resiliency and courage, and with an unfailing kindness toward others. A renewal of her Christian faith in 2013 at Knollwood Baptist Church introduced her to many beloved companions in the way of Jesus who loved her, enjoyed laughing with her, cared for her physical and spiritual needs, and who were blessed to be known and loved by her.
Courtney was a 1989 graduate of West Forsyth High School where she excelled in several sports including fast pitch softball where she played pitcher and catcher. She earned an associate degree in 2010 from Forsyth Tech where she later taught phlebotomy. She worked as a phlebotomist at Novant Health for nearly 30 years until her health failed. She was deeply loved by her colleagues, patients, and students.
Even on her worst days of suffering severe pain, exhaustion, and increasing physical limitations, Courtney enjoyed telling a good tale and displaying her intelligent and wry humor. She was passionate about people and loved nature photography.
Courtney was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lee W. and Ann W. Coghill and Harold G. and Mary O. Koach. She is survived by parents James W. (Jim) and Kathleen K. (Kathy) Coghill of Clemmons; brother, Brian J. Coghill, and his wife, Heather S. Coghill, of Greensboro, N.C.; niece, Anna V. Coghill of Montgomery, AL., and nephew, Grant S. Coghill of Wilmington, NC; uncle, Jack Koach (Jennifer) of Kiawah Island, SC; aunts, Colleen K. Berson (Jeffrey) of Farmington Hills, MI, and Debra K. Cranford of Durham, NC; and many cousins.
Courtney also valued the love and friendship of her primary care provider, Danielle Carter-Atkins; friend, Diana Jones and her son, L.J., Courtney’s godson; and soul friends, Beth Joyner and Melanie Wilkinson.
A service of remembrance and gratitude for Courtney’s life will be held at Knollwood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 7. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Courtney’s memory may be made to support the Benevolence Ministries of Knollwood Baptist Church, 330 Knollwood Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
